When Choreographer Saroj Khan’s Mother Thought Her Daughter was a retard – Inspiring Rags to Riches Story

Saroj Khan is a renowned choreographer in the Hindi Film Industry. A name and personality in choreography which has been teaching dance and her every step is a popular one. Saroj Khan had gone through many years in the industry and is still continuing as a dance master. Saroj Khan’s life has many turning points which will make you think.

Leading a healthy life, Saroj Khan was born into a rich family. Her father was rich and educated man settled in Pakistan but they became poor after they left Pakistan and she was forced to work. She danced and danced and reach the Hindi Film Industry.

In an interview given to rediff.com, she spoke about her journey:

“I was born in 1948. My father was a rich, educated man in Pakistan so he did not have the habit of working. When they left Pakistan, they lost everything and became very poor. My father later developed cancer and could not work. I come from an orthodox family but I turned out to be a freak! I used to see my shadow and dance. My mother thought I was a retard and took me to a doctor who told her ‘she just wants to dance, so let her dance.’ The doctor suggested that she put me in the film industry since my family needed money. I was the oldest of four sisters and one brother. I had to take care of everyone in the house.”

Saroj Khan worked hard to support her family and finally she has made a name for herself.
