Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the Former President of India ,the best known scientist is popularly known as India’s “Missile Man”. He was a very humble person and the humility that he portrayed showed in inspiring deeds that he did. He gave his presidential salary to charity. He had the vision and goal of energy independence for India by reducing the dependency on fossil fuels and help maintain a clean environment. Truly a man of vision !
During one of the interviews at Knowledge @ Wharton, when he was asked what he might do differently if there is rewind and replay of years as President – he had mentioned that he would want the the Rashtrapati Bhavan completely with solar power. This idea struck to him later in his Presidential term.
He had began working on this proposal but environmental agencies had raised a lot of questions, before he could answer his term had ended. He definitely wanted to Rashtrapati Bhavan to be the first home in India to be powered completely by solar energy-a thing that he had yet to accomplish . He was a leader par excellence.
To grow as a leader we must have the courage to make decisions. Our actions must be transparent and we must work with integrity. We must know to manage failures and success . A leader must be able to travel the unexplored path.
