Csanád Szegedi, the Hungarian politician was a member of the Hungarian radical nationalist Jobbik political party between 2003 and 2012, which was known for anti-Semitism statements. Szegedi was well known for his fierce comments about Jews. Since he was raised Hungarian Reformed Szegedi and did not initially practice the Jewish religion.
However in June 2012, when he visited his grandmother , he was in for a surprise. Szegedi was shocked to hear about his half-Jewish origin. His grandparents on his mother’s side were Jewish: who had survived the Auschwitz concentration camp, while his grandfather was a veteran of forced labor camps.
Hence under Jewish religious ritual laws this makes Szegedi a Jew ! Since making the discovery about his heritage, he quit the Jobbik party, severed all ties with his political past and embarked on remarkable journey to learn, practise and embrace his Jewish faith.
HE ADOPTED THE NAME DOVID, WORE A KIPPAH, LEARNT HEBREW, VISITED ISRAEL OBSERVES THE SABBATH AND ATTENDS SYNAGOGUE.
